INTRODUCTION
The Saint-Quentin church is a traditional village church like many in the Boulonnais.
Built in the 12th century, remodeled in the 15th century, it was disused and damaged during the French Revolution of 1789.
Several reconstruction works were undertaken by the ministers and the municipalities after the revolutionary period, but it was Abbé Paul-Amédée Lecoutre who gave the church its current appearance and interior decoration.
From 1863, when he was appointed to Wirwignes, until his death in 1906, he devoted his life to the church.
He fulfilled his dream by going on a pilgrimage to Italy and the Holy Land. The discovery of the Orient became his inspiration.
A rounded artist, dedicated to his project and carried by his faith, he anchored the Church in the word of God and in the battles of the Church of his century.
Even if he called on professionals for his colossal work, Abbé Lecoutre became a tailor, painter, stone and wood sculptor... and is the author of most of the objects listed as Historic Monuments in 1982 then 2006.
He gave the church a naive decor, full of imagination, rare in religious buildings and which contrasts with its traditional exterior appearance.
