SAINT-ANNE CHAPEL

C7E5B8B9-274C-4F8F-A296-74E5FD0FB1FC_edited.png

This chapel was built in 1870 (medallion on the right wall). It is dedicated to Saint Anne and also to Saint Joachim, the parents of the Virgin Mary.

On the base of the altar:

- on the left: King David,

- in the center Saint Anne and Saint Joachim, with their daughter who appears to them; on a banner is written “She will be the mother of the Messiah”.

- on the right the patriarch Abraham.

Abbot Lecoutre, through the presence of the two patriarchs, emphasizes the royal filiation of the Virgin Mary.

The stained glass windows depict episodes from the couple's life marked by sterility for more than 20 years, at the end of which the upcoming birth of the Virgin Mary was announced to them by an angel.

At the bottom of the ceiling are the names of Ste Anne and Joachim.

On the ceiling of the chapel are painted the words of the novena (prayer) to Saint Anne.
